The whole world in a room

Adapted from an analysis published in America – circulated by Starlab’s Amy McMorrow

Imagine that today the world’s population was shrunk down to 100 people in a room. That room would contain:

  • 57 Asians
  • 21 Europeans
  • 14 from the Western Hemisphere
  • 8 Africans
  • 52 females, 48 males
  • 30 would be Christian
  • 89 heterosexuals
  • 6 – all Americans – would have 59% of all the wealth
  • 30 would be illiterate
  • 50 would be malnourished
  • 80 would be in substandard homes
  • Giving birth: 1
  • Dying: 1
  • Computer owners: 1
  • College educated: 1
